Tree Pruning & Reduction

Good pruning is precise, restrained, and carried out with the long-term health of the tree in mind. Whether a tree needs reducing for light and space, thinning to ease wind load, or lifting to clear a building or driveway, the right cuts in the right places keep it healthy, safe, and in good shape for years to come.

All our pruning is carried out to British Standard 3998, the recognised standard for tree work. We prune to enhance a tree’s natural form — never to leave it disfigured or stressed by over-cutting.

About this Service

Tree pruning and reductions require technical knowledge, experience, and an understanding of tree structure and long-term development. When carried out correctly, pruning can improve tree form, reduce risk, and support healthy growth without compromising the integrity or appearance of the tree.

At Oakhurst Arboriculture, all pruning work is carried out with careful consideration of the tree, its surroundings, and its future condition. Each tree is assessed individually to determine the most appropriate specification

Our Approach

Workers cutting large tree branches with machinery in a park-like setting with a large tree, green grass, and a blue sky.

Our approach to pruning and reduction work is methodical and standards-led. All work is planned carefully and carried out using appropriate techniques to achieve a natural, balanced result.

This includes:

  • Assessment of tree condition and site constraints

  • Advice on the most appropriate pruning specification

  • Work carried out in line with BS3998 (Tree Work – Recommendations)

  • Careful execution using professional climbing and rigging techniques

  • Responsible removal of arisings and tidy site completion

Our aim is to deliver work that is effective, proportionate, and appropriate for the long-term management of the tree.

The Benefits of Tree Pruning and crown reductions

Healthier trees, pruned to standard rather than topped or over-cut

Improved light, space, and clearance without harming the tree

Reduced wind load and risk on exposed or top-heavy trees

Work that respects TPOs, conservation areas, and wildlife law

Why work with Oakhurst?

A person wearing protective gear is trimming a tall, leafless tree using a chainsaw, with a clear blue sky in the background.

Tree pruning and reduction work may be subject to legal controls, including Tree Preservation Orders and conservation area restrictions. We have experience working within these frameworks and can advise on permissions or applications where required before any work is undertaken.

All work is carried out with due regard for relevant legislation, safety requirements, and environmental considerations.
